Backstory on the Genius Sonority case - #ThankYouGeniusSonority

Genius Sonority was created by Manabu Yamana with the help of Nintendo's creator, Yamauchi. Despite popular belief, Yamauchi liked RPGs but didn't like the culture behind it due to Square's dominance over it and the stigma of otakus locking themselves up in their rooms. Yamauchi gave Manabu Yamana funds from the Q fund; a old venture to fund new studios. It was a joint ownership between Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, and Yamana himself. Yamana was the lead battle mechanic programmer for DQ 1-6 before leaving Square. You can say he pioneered and popularized modern dungeon crawling games made DQ so popular. With the success of the Pokémon colosseum games, TPCi took the franchise away from them with Gamefreak's order as they have a say on who works on spinoffs.
The Colosseum games had a low budget and only around 24 people working on them, with Pokemon Battle Revolution given a larger budget and staff allocation due to it being released a month within the Wii's launch. From then on, Yamana struggled getting projects because Yamauchi was no longer there. The change in leadership led to his team getting low projects outside Nintendo such as a tinker bell game and a shovelware tier Pokémon trozei and shuffle games.
The Japanese company review site, jobtalk, which actually validates reviews unlike Glassdoor, chronicles that Nintendo is entirely responsible for not giving the Genius team any projects at all despite the employees hunger to do so. They get little to no support; with the studio's revenues begin the sole resource for paying its employees. The Denpamen series got almost 0% to actually 0% support, despite the latest sequel on the 3DS improving everything on its predecessors.
Yamana recently made a pseudo sequel under the studio name called "New Denpamen RPG", having to take it to mobile with little microtransactions to make new players and old feel welcome and not ripped off. It feels like old DQ combat mixed with Animal crossing home development and cute/quirky as fuck designs. It has 5 stars on the Japanese mobile portals of iOS and android. Building off this with a different studio, NOISE which suffered a similar bad fate like Genius. NOISE was made by Kouji Kenjou, a watch maker turned game developer, who was the creator, director, and producer of the Custom Robo series. NOISE became part of several companies that was created out of the Marigul initiative, a company (now defunct), that was made by Nintendo and Recrut, to help fund more games to support the consoles. After Marigul, it existed as a third party entity with an exclusive contract to Nintendo supporting its existing ips as a second party dev.
Noise had originally 10 employees who wanted to make PC games before switching sides to developing for Nintendo. Their first game was Custom Robo for the N64, which was so successful that it was launched in China for Nintendo's IQueplayer, also doing well. Each of their Custom Robo games did exceptionally well that even one of Yamauchi's favorite games for the N64 was Custom Robo. Unfortunately, things turned grim for Noise once Yamauchi left as well. After Custom Robo DS, Nintendo broke the contract with NOISE, saying they aren't interested in Custom Robo. Kouji tried multiple times to support a sequel with Nintendo denying them every time. He even approached them to do any of their other IPs and Nintendo's excuse was that others were working on them. Slowly, the team started to leave one by one since no projects were coming in and they had literally no income. Kouji attempted to save his team by finding another publisher for support in 2009, Bamco, and made Go! Go! Cosmo Cops!. Unfortunately, while releasing in PAL regions, Bamco cancelled the Japanese release. As a consolation, they allowed them to work on a Katamari puzzle shovel ware called Korogashi Puzzle Katamari Damacy. The team at the time had 16 people, down from the original 50 during the CR series development. Kouji left to make his own studio making mobile mini game shovel ware, which failed.
In 2013, NOISE made a Gyrozetter game for Squenix in 2013, which was in development for 3 years, now by only 10 employees and without Kouji. The game did alright with Squenix taking their code and making an arcade game. Soon after, more people left the team at NOISE, which now totals around 8 people. NOISE currently and since 2013, have been working on as backup maintenance developers for Square Enix's Dragon Quest Casino Slot Mobile game. Since 2012, Kouji has been bombarded with requests to comment on the Nintendo split, which he refused to comment as they didn't part well and isn't allowed to talk about it due to a NDA termination agreeement. However, a confirmed NOISE employee spilled the beans on what happened to their studio for the past decade on 2ch back in 2013; which basically chronicled that the change over at Nintendo led to the death of CR and eventual poor health their studio is in.
Kouji is releasing a spiritual successor to Custom Robo (for the Switch), called Synaptic Drive. He has a publisher now called "thousand games" known for making a bunch of mobile games. He's marketing it as an e-sports title.

The Best Places We've Found to Sleep

What's up, folks?
We've been on the road for almost two months, traveling mostly along the US west coast. It's been a learning process, so we thought we'd share some helpful info on the best places we've found for catching sleep while living the vanlife.
So far, we haven't been asked to move by police or any businesses, which we know can be a hassle. Hope the info helps! Let us know if you have any questions!
Best Places to Sleep Living the Vanlife
Wal-Mart
When in doubt, Wal-Mart parking lots will in many situations become your best friend. But be wary, because not all lots guarantee overnight parking.
In most cases, you can pull up to any Wal-Mart and in far-off corners of the parking lot will reside several vans/RVs.
But even if the Wal-Mart doesn’t mind overnight guests, city ordinance may dictate otherwise.
Especially on the west coast, most cities have laws prohibiting overnight parking unless it’s a designated camping area.
It’s best to call whichever store you’re near and ask if they allow overnight RV parking before pulling up. Or check this list of Wal-Mart’s that don’t allow overnight parking.
The parking lot lighting can be bright and there is usually traffic around the sections for overnight parking -- good for safety, not that great for sleep.
On the other hand, there are bathrooms inside. Fun fact: supercenters also have (clean) restrooms in the back of the store.
And if you need anything (medicine, water, food), then it’s a minute away.
Freecampsites.net
In times of having service and looking for a spot to stay, Freecampsites.net delivers many options considered “free dispersed campsites”, meaning they’re free and usually off the grid.
We included this, despite it not being a single place, because when in doubt, it gave us a plethora of spots to stay.
Simply type in your location and the results will show both red and green tent symbols near you. Red represents cost sites and green free.
Every single time we’ve chosen a location, it’s checked out.
Each site normally has reviews/ratings from previous stayers, a description, and address/GPS coordinates.
Although many times these spots are farther out of the way and have fewer amenities, they are less noisy and more rustic, giving you more of a wilderness experience and a better sleep.
AllStays Camp & RV Mobile App
AllStays is a mobile app similar to freecampsites.net, but includes a lot of filters that make it easier to find a free or cheap spot for the night.
The app comes at a price ($10), but we’ve definitely gotten our money’s worth and – major benefit – it stores locally on your phone and works without service as long as you're receiving a GPS signal.
National Forests
In other words, this is the citizens’ land. National Forest pull outs and dispersed camping sites offer anyone a free place to stay, whether it’s in your vehicle or a tent off the road.
We’ve confirmed this with many National Park Rangers.
As long as you’re in National Forest boundaries and there aren’t signs specifically prohibiting camping, you’re free to pull off and stay the night, as long as you follow forest and federal regulations.
This has been our most frequent method of finding a place to hang out and sleep, since we’re visiting a lot of National Parks.
At night, traffic dwindles and it’s quiet and dark. You’re in wilderness and the exposed cosmos at night radiate with brilliance.
Fewer amenities, but safety and a good night’s rest are great pros.
Most National Parks are closely surrounded by National Forest land, so we tend to drive outside the park at night to camp for free and re-enter in the morning – made possible with the $80 Annual National Parks Pass that allows unlimited entries to any National Park.
Casinos
Through the Allstays app we found that many casinos offer overnight parking.
Though some require that you register with security inside (pro obviously being safety), others allow overnight parking without contacting them. Their website should inform of such mandates.
Registration is simply giving them your license plate number and model and make, so they know your vehicle is staying overnight when they do routine parking lot patrol.
Hell, at the Red Fox casino in Laytonville, NoCal, we registered and then were given ten dollars for joining their Players Club (also free) and nearly doubled our money.
It was a good time and we were happy with the free night’s stay. Many are 24 hours, so if you need to use the restroom this method is convenient.
Rest Areas
Though much sparser and typically time-limited, rest areas have been convenient places to stay on rare occasion.
The usual rest area will have an 8-hour stay limit within a 24-hour period (signs should be posted or you can check the state’s Department of Transportation website for what’s allowed at rest areas). Which means if you are exploring near one you can always go back after 24 hours.
Each one we’ve stayed at, we’ve stayed a couple hours longer without hassle. They also have restrooms and usually water spigots.
Rest areas are perhaps the noisiest spot you’ll stay and their safety is debatable, but they are well-lit and right off highways if you need a short stop.
